Sharjah Desert Park

Eid mubarak to everyone!

Today marks the last day of the hub’s 3 day holiday and hence i found myself some time to blog a bit (now that little Annie is sleeping)..

Didn’t really cook for the past few days because we were mostly out, hence no new recipes to share.. However, the hubs and i have decided that we are craving for Hainanese Chicken Rice, hence i will attempt it on Sunday..

Today, we went to Sharjah as tourists. We went to the Sharjah Desert Park and visited Arabia’s Wildlife Centre, Islamic Botanical Gardens and Sharjah Natural History and Botanical Museum. The entrance fee to the compound is dhs15 per adult, free for children..

The Arabia’s Wildlife Centre is actually a zoo and is fully air-conditioned! Hence, despite the heat (40+ deg cel), we were still able to enjoy ourselves!! 😊 There were many types of animals exhibited in the zoo. If i can remember correctly, there were reptiles (lizards and snakes), fishes, frogs, rodents, nocturnal animals (wild cats, bats, foxes, owls), birds (that flies freely), tahrs, ostriches, wolves, hyenas, baboon, leopards and cheetahs.

Annie was very excited and happy looking at the animals, unfortunately we weren’t allowed to take photographs, she was smiling from ear to ear…

We headed to the Islamic Botanical Gardens, which was just a 5 minute thing.. There was nothing much and i guess due to the summer heat, the plants looked very dry and was withering.. Definitely not worth the 5 minutes in there..

Then we went to the Sharjah Natural History and Botanical Museum, where there were exhibits of wildlife animals, birds, marine mammals and fishes, dinosaurs, solar system (Big Bang Theory), plants etc. I felt like i was in a science centre! It was quite interesting..

Within the compound, there was also a Children’s Farm, but it looked like it was outdoor, hence we didn’t bother going there..

It was fun visiting such places, especially when i have a very curious toddler that goes “oooooh!” every time she sees something interesting.. But unlike Singapore’s zoo where people can visit 10 times in a year, i guess i wont be heading to the desert park anytime soon!

There’s so much more to explore in UAE! Will probably visit the Dolphinarium next!
